Supporting Physicians Trained Outside of Canada
The Welcome Collaborative program is the first of its kind in Canada. Physicians who have undergone medical training outside of Canada and have been recently licensed to practice in Nova Scotia are obligated to attend the orientation as a requirement of their licensure.
Physicians trained outside Canada have identified the need for a robust orientation program to support their integration into medical practice in the Canadian context. The orientation program aims to address gaps in the onboarding experience of newly licensed physicians.
The program, which was launched in 2023 has received three-year funding support from the government of Nova Scotia’s Labour Skills and Immigration Department.
