Over the next three years, the Welcome Collaborative will host 140 doctors trained outside of Canada to address gaps in their onboarding experience. The orientation program will connect these doctors to support, mentorship, and a sense of community, all of which are critical to long-term success in practice.
The 3-day orientation session allows all involved in developing the Welcome Collaborative to directly hear the experiences, challenges, and concerns of physicians arriving in Nova Scotia. The Welcome Collaborative is committed to improvement and will shape its programming to be meaningful and relevant for physicians new to practising in our province.
“The Welcome Collaborative program is important for physicians trained outside of Canada because it helps them to settle into their new environment.
When doctors feel supported, comfortable, and connected, they are better able to focus on caring for their patients.
By connecting physicians with local resources and networking opportunities with other medical professionals in Nova Scotia, the program can also help them enhance their skills, learn about local healthcare practices, and contribute to the local medical community.”
The provincial government has invested $1.3 million to develop this orientation program offering doctors coming to Nova Scotia support, mentorship, and a sense of community. The program will be evaluated to determine its impact.
